This is THE area of French expatriates in the city of London and also one of the most chic and trendy districts of the capital. The English nicknamed this area “Frog Alley”.

Many French come to live in London and a lot of them want to move in South Kensington. This can be explained by its ideal location. Indeed, it is very close to the town centre. Moreover, it is also because it is an attractive place to live.

This is a trendy district where business men, entrepreneurs and students from around the world coexist. Celebrities have even taken up residence as the singer Adele, David Beckham or the actor John Malkovich.

South Kensington also offers places that might delight your senses:

  • Restaurants tend to offer a renowned cuisine and for its quality. It contains some of the finest institutions of London as the excellent French restaurant L’Étranger on Gloucester Road, La Bouchée on Old Brompton Road, and La Brasserie at the corner of Brompton Road and Pelham Street.
  • If you are looking to enjoy a good coffee, on Saturday morning, go not far away to Bute Street, in La Raison d’Être.
  • You can also read your favourite novels in French, in French Bookshop or to discover La Page on Harrington Road, the oldest bookshop in London.
  • La Cave à Fromages prepares the best cheese sandwiches in all of London and Paul bakery on Thurloe Square leaves a little taste of France when we bite into their delicious baguettes.

South Kensington has many galleries and museums among the most popular in London including the famous Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. They  are perfect places for young and old people. Indeed, note that these museums are free for the whole family.

Concerning the metro lines serving South Kensington, these are the Circle, District and Piccadilly.

From our hostels  Palmers Lodge Hillspring and Swiss Cottage (which are both on the Jubilee Line line), you just have to stop at Green Park before joining the Piccadilly line and finally get to South Kensington!
