Just few days left until the ghosts awake again…
That’s the reason why we want to explain you a little bit of the background of Halloween.
Since 2000 years Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the 31st of October.
The word “Halloween” is a shortening of “All Hallows’ Evening” also known as Hallowe’en or All Hallows’ Eve. 400 years ago Scottish people used the expression “Halloween” first.
This tradition has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and the deceased would come back to life and cause havoc such as sickness or damaged crops. Masks and costumes were worn in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or appease them.
Nowadays Halloween is one of the most famous events in Europe and America. Costumes and special decorations as spiders, witches, bats and pumpkins create a spooky atmosphere. Not only children, who ask for “Trick or treat!”, but also adults enjoy this scary day and evening.
